Abstract

Fetal cystic hygromas are congenital malformation of the lymphatic system appearing as single or multiloculted fluid-filled cavities, most often about the neck. The cyst walls are lined with a single laryer of flattened endothelium supported by a
connective tissue stroma. The fluid within the cyst is serous, being clear or straw-coloured and occasionally blood-stained.
Tyey are thought ot arise from failure of the lymphatic system to communicate with the venous system in the neck. They often progress to hydrops and cause fetal death.
Recently, we have experienced a cause of fetal cystic hytgroma at 24 weeks of gestation with FDIU observed in 25-year-old nulliparous woman, and report that with a brief review of related literatures.
